    Summary of fluoropolymer

The molecular structure of fluoropolymer is the same structure as polyethylene which is connected with C-C. It is a synthetic resin which is replaced from polyethylene hydrogen to fluoro molecule.
The 70% marketed fluoropolymer is POLY TETRA FLUORO ETHYLENE(PTFE).
The teflon is crystallinity resin. It has heat-resistance that resist for a long time at 260¡É,include: chemical-resistance, electrical resistance, high frequency, non-tackiness, low efficient of friction, fire resistance.
The superior features of fluoropolymer are originated with strong combined energy(C-F combined energy 110~116Kcal/mol)between fluoro and carbon. The PTFE which is surrounded with fluoro around main chain of carbon has the best features.
It is used widely compare to another high molecule due to non-tackiness, including low friction, weather-resistance.

  1. Feature of fluoropolymer
    • Heat -resistance - The fluoropolymer has fire resistance and heat resistance.
Expecially the PTFE and PFA are used commonly at 260¡É.But those can be used at 300¡É for short time.
The FEP is lower than fluoropolymer approximately 50¡É.
The PCTFE can be used for maximum 120¡É
    • chemical- resistance - The fuloropolymer shows superior resitance against all chemicals.
The PTFE, FEP, PFA are stable for all chemicals except fluorogas, including chlorine trifluoride, melting alkali metal. It isn't eroded against all acids, alkalies, oxidants, organic solvents.
    • electronic properties - It has good electrical insulation and high frequency.
Expecially it is regular for non dielectric rate and dielectric tangent.
It is the best among all insulators.
    • features of friction and wear - It has the lowest efficient of friction compare to all solids and particular self lubrication.
But PTFE is not good for wear-resistance, including cold-resistance, flow-resistance, so it combine with fillers (ex. carbon, graphite, bronze, glass fiber, carbon fiber etc.) in order to improve wear-resistance and load-resistance.
    • non-tackiness - Because the fluroropolymer has non-tackiness, it doesn't adhere to adhesive materials.
It is easy to drop despite bonding with adhesive material.

    Type of fluoropolymer

  1. PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene)
    • The lowest efficient of friction
    • High inner heat temperature
    • Superior wear- resistance
    • Superior mole release
    • Superior chemical -resistance
    • Superior non- tackiness
    • Use temperature 260¡É
  1. PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy)
    • Low efficient of friction
    • Superior chemical- resistance
    • Superior high inner temperature
    • Low durability compare to PTFE
    • Superior melting and flow
    • Superior strength in condition of wear
    • Non- tackiness
    • Use temperature 260¡É
  1. FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene Copolymer)
    • Low efficient of friction
    • Superior chemical-resistance
    • Superior non- tackiness
    • Superior electrical insulation
    • Superior corrosion resistance compare to PTFE use temperature 205¡É
  1. ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene Copolymer)
    • Superior chemical- resistance
    • Superior wear- resistance
    • Use temperature 150¡É
  1. PTFE
    • It has the best heat -resistance (260¡É, continous using temperature) among all fluoro chemicals.
It is not erode against chemicals . And it has good electrical insulation ,including electrical features, low coefficient of friction.
It is used largely among fluoropolymers for o-ring, including gasket, tube, wire, sliding bearing, tank lining.
  1. PFA
    • The PFA has heat- resistance like PTFE and good machinery properties for high temperature. It is possible to eject and extrude for the molding .It is used for semiconductor(water basket),pipe, corrosion-resistance lining.
It can paint with powder and mold for extrusion with film.
  1. FEP
    • The FEP has low heat-resistance (200¡É) compare to PTFE.
It can extrude for molding as PFA.
Because of high electrical insulation and fire-resistance, it is can be used for computer, including cable, high speed optical transmitter.
And it is used for film cover of solar battery due to good weather- resistance and transparency.
      It can paint with powder.
  1. ETFE
    • The ETFE¡¡has heat- resistance of 150¡É, and can eject and extrude for mold.
It has superior machinery properties, including chemical corrosion-resistance, electronical features.
It is used for hose lining of auto, chemical pump housing, wires.
  1. PVDF
    • The PVDF has heat- resistance of 150¡É.
It has superior machinery properties and electronics properties compare to another fluoropolymers.
  1. PCTFE
    • The PCTFE has heat-resistance of 150¡É.
The chemical properties of PCTFE is lower than another fluoropolymers, but it has superior machinery properties.
It can press and extrude for mold.
It is used for chemical equipment, pump, couple ring, water proof film.

introductory remarks : ¡Ý very good, ¡Û good, ¡â possible for usage, ¡¿ impossible for usage
note(1) 0.1-oxygen limiting modulus (Vol%), The fire resistance is high as high as index
note(2) in case of the thin molding product

    Filled PTFE

The PTFE ¡¡is superior material.
But the machinery properties of PTFE is getting lower while used for machinery parts.
The PTFE can be improved for the maintenance of low friction and press according to mixing with filler.
It becomes strong for rigidity, compressive strength, creep-resistance and low for thermal expansion coefficient.
The properties improvement according to filler is following.

  1. Type of filler and influence of properties

PTFE all physical properties table reference to physical properties table of homepage only, among test methods
    - ASTM D 621 ¡æ ASTM D 395
    - JIS K 6891 ¡æ ASTM D 638
    - The test method of compressive strength is ASTM D 695

The process of compression molding for PTFE

  1. Process of compression molding for PTFE
  1. Process of injection molding
    • The engineering plastic products(PP, PBT, PEEK) and PTFE, PFA, ETFE are injected for mold
  1. Process of precision processing for PTFE
    • It is a precise process in the CNC lathe and Machining center with using pure PTFE and filled PTFE material.
It can produce the products of complex shape and accurate size which is required for customer according to the maintenance of strict temperature.
